About Me:
I am passionate about gardening, and have been most of my life.
I have a vivid memory of planting beans as part of a science experiment in the first grade. I was fascinated that something so small could grow into something so big. I still love this aspect of gardening. All through my middle school and high school years I would reserve a patch of my parents' garden for something of my own - usually pumpkins.
When I was in college, I read authors like Jane Jacobs and others that introduced me to the philosophical concept of the garden - the meeting place of humanity and nature (the garden without humanity is a jungle. Humanity without nature is the city). When I got out of school, as soon as I could afford a house with a back yard I got back into gardening and haven't stopped since.
About five years ago I was introduced to the concept of permaculture gardening. A neighbor of mine is a musician who introduced me to the concept of working closer with nature's established methods of fostering life to build a garden. Now that we have moved back to Georgia and I have a nice south facing lot, I thought I'd give it a try.
Why a blog? I started the blog because I owe most of my knowledge on this subject to others on the net who did the same thing. As I learn more through my own research and practice, I want to be able to give back to others with similar interests.
I am passionate about a number of other things - including my wife and children, golf, and reading.
